Brazil’s Gilson “The Barbarian” Oliveira (now based in NYC) has trained some of the best in MMA including; Fabio Clemente, Marcelo Garcia, Tarsis Humphreys, Mo Fowzi, Rene Dreifuss, and Matheus De Oliveira. TSF caught up with Oliveira recently in midtown as he was teaching - “the art of countering the sprawl” - in a take-down attempt. Click through to watch this video. He is a beast on the ground as a 155lb Ring of Combat champ, yet Brian McLauglin knows to reach the highest levels of MMA he will need a sound stand-up game. As the 23 year old owner of Hudson Valley Jiu Jitsu, McLauglin has trained with UFC vets Din Thomas and Matt Arroyo in Florida but is betting that he can build a powerhouse MMA gym just 60 miles north of NYC in Fishkill, NY.
