Rider graduate and Ricardo Almeida 185lb protege Nick Catone appears to be on the verge of breaking into the UFC with a soon to be finalized bout agreement to fight Amir Sadollah at UFC 91 in Las Vegas, according to fiveouncesofpain.com. Catone continues the growth of the central New Jersey MMA scene that touts Frankie Edgar, Chris Liguori, Kurt Pellegrino, Tom Gallichio, Steve DeAngelis and Ricardo Almeida as local MMA icons.
TriStateFighter.com spent a little time with Nick Catone in June, before his last victory, and shot this sparring video. It was speculated at the time that with another win and Catone would be moving to the UFC. Catone beat Eric Tavares at ROC 20 an it now appears this Jersey kid is on to greener pastures.
