He is the former undefeated Light Welterweight European Champion and as GSP’s Muay Thai coach is the man who orchestrated the devastating head kick which knocked out Matt Hughes in 2007. The founder of The Wat training facility in downtown Manhattan, he is one of the hottest names in MMA coaching. As the skill level continues to sky-rocket at the highest levels of MMA, Nurse’s tutelage is in demand. Phil recently sat with John Moody of TriStateFighter.com to discuss how he first connected with GSP, what the scene was like in St. Pierre’s locker room after his devastating loss to Matt Serra, and why he thinks a new MMA fighter should learn the standup game first before Jiu Jitsu.
